Shiatsu is a therapeutic bodywork which combines ancient eastern healthcare systems with the benefits of massage. It can be enjoyed as a rejuvenating treatment and can help support you through the stresses and strains of life, as well as help you to achieve long-term well-being.
After an initial consultation to establish your requirements, presenting conditions and medical history the treatment is usually given with you lying down on a futon (a cotton mattress) at floor level although it can also be given in a seated position if that is what is required or you are unable to get down to floor level. You remain clothed throughout and loose, preferably cotton, clothing is recommended (leisurewear is ideal). Techniques used include gentle manipulations, pressure with the palms of the hands, elbows and knees as well as point work with fingers and thumbs. The aim is to help release areas of tightness and tension and strengthen areas of weakness. Sensations you may experience include relief from muscular and emotional strain and tension, deep relaxation, inner calm and renewed vitality. You may also find that it improves your posture, breathing and circulation. Benefits of ShiatsuDue to new Advertising Standard Regulations issued on 1st March 2011, we are not permitted to list any conditions that Shiatsu might benefit but you are welcome to email me or call 07949 039367 to discuss your requirements or to establish if Shiatsu Bodywork may help you.
You are also welcome to try a FREE 15-MINUTE TASTER SESSION with no obligation or strings attached at either of my London or Sussex practices. Click here to book or call 07949 039367. Please note a full consultation will not be taken at a taster session. |
Shiatsu bodywork is complementary to and supports other forms of healthcare including allopathic medicine. It is not a substitute for a professional medical diagnosis and it is recommended that you consult your GP if you have any health concerns.
