Manual Lymphatic Drainage

"One of the best-kept secrets of the health and beauty scene." Jane Alexander, The Daily Mail
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a light and gentle touch treatment which is thoroughly enjoyable and instantly calming and relaxing.

It's gentleness belies its power and below are some of the conditions that MLD can benefit but it can also be simply enjoyed as a relaxing and rejuvenating treatment. Because of its gentle nature, it is a wonderful therapy  for those who have painful conditions, skin sensitivities and the elderly.

On a personal note, MLD was a key factor in helping me eliminate a fatigue virus I had in my system for 9 years. I am always interested to hear from people who suffer from this or chronic fatigue as I feel my combined skills can go a long way in helping resolve these debilitating conditions.

MLD is also extremely beneficial for the treatment for lymphodoema, but if you require treatment for this condition, please visit the MLD UK website and search for a therapist who is qualified in Decongestive Lymphatic Therapy (DLT).
The Lymphatic System:
Remove excess fluid from body tissue.
Remove toxins, waste and other unwanted materials and pathogens from the body.
Supports the immune system by protecting the body against infection.

guidelines

Treatment is given on a couch and you are required to remove your clothing down to your underwear (women may also need to remove their bra).  You are covered with towels and a blanket for warm and comfort.

There are only a few contraindications for MLD but please note, I am unable to treat you if you have:
  • A malignant disease (for fear of spreading it)
  • Acute infection (for fear of spreading it)
  • A recent thrombus (less than 6 months)
  • Oedema caused by heart disease (right side insufficiency).  If you're not sure, do contact me to discuss.
  • Since no oil or powder is involved, it is safe even for those with sensitive skin.

frequency of treatment

General guidelines for frequency of treatment depend on what you are trying to achieve.  If you are seeking:
  • Health maintenance: 10 treatments per year is recommended (by Dr Vodder).
  • Treatment for a particular condition (seasonal allergy, scar reduction, detoxing, for example) you may need to receive a series of treatments more closely together.
  • For cosmetic surgery or post-hip or knee replacement, a general guideline of a series of up to 10 treatments, ideally on a daily basis but certainly frequently, is recommended starting from the day following the procedure.
